Mrs. Green

I was listening to a Thomas Friedman Seminar called 'The World is Flat' and was amazed how accurately things were portrayed in it. One thing in particular - not that I think it's a waste to find a chunk from our precious schedules to discuss about the other things also - that hit me in the head sharp was about the predicaments of this beautiful place we live in - the Earth - which I would refer to as Mrs. Green; someone we are fighting the Green Revolution for; someone, who long ago, stopped expecting anything nice from the hapless creatures dwelling her estates.
I, for a reason, think this name suits her more than any other. And when I say this, I am refuting the whole concept of Mother Earth. The way I see it, she is more like a landlady who leases places to live and all she expects in lieu - a lease has a payback - is a little care and respect; something which is worthless to our tiny and conceited minds. Rather than worrying about the fact that leases expire without a prompt payback, we, instead, ponder why her name is Green; you know Green suggests jealousy - and lets not even get into who has invented these color innuendos - Is she jealous of us (Is there any reason she would be?); because that's what we, the latest evolution of homo-sapiens do - thinking, acting, fighting, brooding over worthless matters.
Egotistical, as we are, it never crosses our minds that we are wasting the resources at hands. And then we start a revolution as an explanation to all our crappy actions - yes the Green Revolution. As Friedman would say, it is not really a revolution, and however absurd it may seem to a pedestrian mind, a deep-dive suggests it really is true. A revolution is a struggle where people are hurt, people are deprived of things they love, things they want. We cannot coax ourselves into calling this a revolution, with no one ready to part with luxuries that have costs to bear. For a start, we have to lose some of our artificial smiles. We have to lose to win. We have to bleed Red for Mrs Green to smile.
